Directions to SILVER LAKE (Plasses Resort)

July 16th-19th, 2009

Welcome to the TVT Silver Lake overnight horse camping wonderland experience.  Arrival time on your arrival day is 2pm—departure time is noon.

Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.  For those of you who donÕt ride, thereÕs great hiking, motorcycle riding, fishing, or jet skiing (bring your own toys!).  You must bring your own corral, or tie to your trailer.  (There are very few trees.) There are hot showers available, but you will need coins.  Each site has a picnic table and fire ring.  Portapottie and water spigots very close.  Bring a hose for filling water buckets.

Potluck will be both Friday and Saturday nights. Please, bring firewood and personal drinking water, camp chairs and portable shade if you have it.  We will be camping at 6,000 feet elevation, so bring blankets for your horse(s) and rain gear for yourself to pack on your saddle.

The drive from Livermore is only 3 hours 15 minutes, which includes a rest or gas stop.  After you get settled into your camp spot, go to the office which is a 5 minute walk and check in. They will want your vehicle license number and your campsite number. They will give you your vehicle parking pass and the shower combo number.  The office is open 8am to 5pm

DIRECTIONS: While on Hiway 99 either going north or south take the Waterloo exit (Hiway 88).  Hiway 88 takes you through Waterford, Lockford and Clements.

One mile going out of Clements, watch for the Hiway 88 (to Jackson) Hiway 12 Y junction.  Turn left to stay on 88.  (Hiway 12 goes straight).  Now, continue to follow the signs to Jackson, Ione & Commanche Reservoir.  You'll travel through quite a lot of open country before you come to civilization.  Before you actually get to the middle of Jackson, you'll climb a gradual hill on which there is a Burger King and other shopping available on the right.

When you have gotten to the bottom of the hill you are in the middle of Jackson.  You will come to a stop where Hiways 49 and 88 meet.  Here is where you turn left TO STAY ON HIWAY 88 toward Pinegrove, Cooks & HamÕs Station.  (It's about 55 miles East from Jackson to Silver Lake.)

The turn onto the Plasse Resort road off of Hiway 88 is very well marked. There is a ÒPLASSES RESORTÓ sign near the turn-off, so start watching for the sign and turn off as you are coming down from the top of the pass.  YouÕll be able to see the lake by now.  Just go very slowly and be prepared for a VERY, VERY SHARP RIGHT TURN.  Stay on the main road and head toward the resort store and parking lot.  As you get closer look carefully and you will see a dirt road going off to the left (Campground C) through the creek.  Turn onto that dirt road, go through the creek, and keep to the left and watch for campsites ID numbers that are on the logs that separate each site from one another.  The higher site numbers start at the creek crossing end of the meadow.
